Cadenza Interactive Article
Type of Project: UX/UI Design
Company: Medill School of Journalism
Tools: Adobe XD
Date: March 2021
To show the range in my design abilities, I adapted my magazine concept from a previous project into an interactive article for the smartphone. The article is about how rapper Jaden Smith took inspiration from the pandemic when writing songs for his mixtape Cool Tape Volume 3. The project includes a full music timeline, a “what song should you listen to?” quiz and an events page that, in theory, connects to Ticketmaster. This project displays all my own writing, photos, and designs.
Cadenza Magazine
Type of Project: Magazine Cover and Spread
Company: Medill School of Journalism
Tools: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop
Date: February 2021
Tasked with creating my own magazine concept, I came up with Cadenza, a music magazine spotlighting emerging, alternative musicians. I took steps in selecting a color palette, font, and target audience. I also came up with a mission statement for the magazine: Cadenza’s mission is to break away from the usual rhythm of music publications and release thought-provoking content that, like a cadenza, demonstrates free-flowing creativity. Cadenza’s focus is to discover and highlight lesser-known artists who are pushing boundaries and changing music’s landscape. My final project consisted of a cover and spread that displays my design, writing, and photography.
Capitol Crash: Alternative Story
Type of Project: Magazine Spread
Company: Medill School of Journalism
Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign
Date: January 2021
Assigned to find an alternative way to cover the attack on the Capitol, my partner, Andrea, and I decided to cover the story by detailing the pieces that led to the insurrection. Our design of steps leading to the Capitol building on fire complemented the story and the idea that each piece built on the last, leading to the attack. While Andrea focused on the writing, I drew the elements and designed the spread.
