The History of Haunted Houses

Type of Project: HTML, CSS, and JS Coding Project

Company: Medill School of Journalism

Tools: Adobe Illustrator, CodePen, GSAP

Date: October 2021

The goal of this project was to challenge the idea of traditional written storytelling. For my alternative storytelling piece, I knew I wanted to make it interactive so that the audience could feel immersed in my story. Because I coded this project in October, I focused on the history of haunted houses with the hopes of attracting viewers prepping for Halloween. I created a trick or treat style scavenger hunt to really draw people into the feel of the season. I first drew each element of my story in Adobe Illustrator. Once I completed the drawings, I combined HTML, CSS, and Javascript to complete the project.

The Food Waste Problem

Type of Project: HTML, CSS, and JS Coding Project

Company: Medill School of Journalism

Tools: Adobe Illustrator, CodePen, GSAP, ScrollTrigger

Date: December 2022

I have always been passionate about food waste. To better engage and inform viewers about it, I employed ScrollTrigger to create a project with scrolling, dynamic animations. Specifically, I knew I wanted to utilize ScrollTrigger to create an animation of food decomposing to support the written content and make my project more visually dynamic. To execute this concept, I used Adobe Illustrator to draw each phase of a decaying banana peel. Combining ScrollTrigger with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, I created my project which included a scrolling animation of the banana peel spoiling.
